Alabama A&M basketball is making noise on the national stage.
For the first time this season, the Bulldogs’ women’s team received votes in the College Insider Mid-Major Top 25 poll, earning 13 votes in the latest release. Alabama A&M is the only Southwestern Athletic Conference program currently receiving votes on the women’s side.
The recognition comes as the women ride a 10-game winning streak and sit at 14-9 overall, including a 10-1 mark in conference play.
With a win Thursday against Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Alabama A&M would match the longest winning streak in program history. The Bulldogs also have an opportunity to avenge their only league loss Saturday when they host Mississippi Valley State.
Thursday’s matchup against UAPB tips off at 6 p.m. at the AAMU Event Center during the Play 4 Kay Breast Cancer Awareness game and will be streamed on SWAC TV.
The national attention extends beyond the women’s program.
For the second consecutive week, the Alabama A&M men’s basketball team also received votes in the College Insider poll. The Bulldogs earned six votes and are one of two SWAC programs recognized, joining Bethune-Cookman, which received five votes.
The men are 13-11 overall and 6-5 in conference play. Alabama A&M is coming off a 66-58 road win over Grambling State on Monday, snapping a two-game losing streak.
The Bulldogs will host Mississippi Valley State on Saturday at the AAMU Event Center. Tip-off for Love & Basketball/Greek Night is set for 4 p.m. and will also stream on SWAC TV.
For a program that does not always command national headlines, having both the men’s and women’s teams receiving votes simultaneously signals meaningful momentum. With conference play entering its final stretch, Alabama A&M basketball is positioning itself as a contender on both sides.
