Alpha philanthropy pays off for high school grads

HUNTSVILLE — Several Madison County high school graduates received a financial boost for college, thanks to a local fraternity’s philanthropy.

Huntsville’s Delta Theta Lambda Education Foundation recently awarded $25,000 in scholarships to local students. The philanthropic arm of the Delta Theta Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., recognized 30 scholars during the annual Scholarship Awards Presentation.

The money was raised during the foundation’s annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Unity Celebration.

“As a student preparing to go to college this fall, receiving this scholarship from the Huntsville Alphas will help me further my educational journey,” said Christian Tate of Westminster Christian Academy in Huntsville.

Although the event was virtual this year due to the continued renovations of the North Hall at the Von Braun Center, the foundation said it was fortunate to have well-established corporate donors who continued to support the foundation.

For 2023, the Education Foundation received financial support from Adtran; AT&T Alabama; Boeing; Google Fiber; Huntsville Hospital; Lexus of Huntsville; Redstone Federal Credit Union; Regions Bank; Alabama State Reps. Laura Hall and Anthony Daniels; and Woody Anderson Ford.

Corporate donors were Toyota Motor Manufacturing of Alabama, Huntsville Utilities, Mazda Toyota Manufacturing, and the Tennessee Valley Authority.

The Dr. R. Parker Griffith Family Foundation of Huntsville was the presenting corporate partner.

The Delta Theta Lambda Education Foundation is chaired by Gary T. Whitley Jr.
