Aw, shucks! Annual Madison County Farmer’s Market Corn Festival ready to pop

HUNTSVILLE — When it comes to supporting local farmers, this month, the Madison County Farmer’s Market is all ears.

Ears of corn, that is.

Visit the Madison County Farmer’s Market from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday for what will be one of the largest corn festivals in the city this season.

The Market is partnering with The People’s Patch, a Madison County Community Farm, to roast and pass out free ears of freshly picked, locally grown corn.

“This is a great community event for families to come enjoy a welcoming environment while they shop and receive a taste of fresh, locally grown produce on us,” said Mac McCutcheon, Madison County Commission chairman. “Madison County has a history steeped in agriculture, and we are prioritizing supporting our farmers and helping them engage with the community.”

In addition to corn, local farmers will be on hand with fresh produce and pastries for sale – everything from eggs to fresh bread and honey.

There will be live music, food trucks, and even a “corny” coloring corner for the kids.

The Madison County Farmer’s Market, at 1022 Cook Avenue in Huntsville, has been around for more than 200 years and is the oldest in the state.

The People Patch Community Farm is a new venture of the county commission to promote ag education and reduce food insecurity. It’s overseen by District 6 Commissioner Violet Edwards.

“We went from drought conditions in 2024 to record-breaking rain amounts this spring,” Edwards said. “If there is a message, we want people to leave the festival with, it is to thank a farmer.”

The corn festival is a chance to support local, eat fresh, and celebrate summer the Madison County way.
