WAYNESBORO, Tenn. — The Waynesboro Volunteer Fire department is hosting a benefit concert next month to restore fire protection service in northern Wayne County.

Organizers hope to replace the Beech Creek Community Center and Fire Hall that was condemned after a tornado hit the area last month.

Event organizer Phil Dedrick said the community has no fire protection and the nearest community fire department is 25 to 30 minutes away.

“On April 1, our Community Center and Fire Hall sustained major damage from a devastating F3 tornado,” he said. “Insurance … will not cover the cost of repairs.”

Organizers are hoping the benefit concert will allow them to rebuild.

The Beech Creek Community Center and Volunteer Fire Department Benefit Fundraiser Concert is set for June 17, rain or shine.  The event will include food vendors, arts and crafts booths and feature a variety of musical artists including Samantha Kate, Wes Covington, and Los Swamp Monsters Band.

The concert event page states the performers are “donating their talent and time and all of them are driving a long way to get here to Stage 64 at the Waynesboro City Park.”

Gates open at 9 a.m. and the musical performances are from noon to 10 p.m.
