Burritt on the Mountain is opening its gates to the community for a free Valentine’s-themed celebration designed to bring history, creativity and connection together on Round Top Mountain.
Presented by FirstBank, “Love, Burritt Day” will take place Saturday, Feb. 14, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., offering a full day of hands-on activities, live demonstrations, music and food for visitors of all ages.
Throughout the day, Burritt’s historic park will come alive with traditional craft demonstrations, including blacksmithing, woodworking and open-hearth cooking. Guests can also watch spinners and weavers demonstrate historic textile techniques on a variety of looms, offering a glimpse into 19th-century life on the mountain.
Interactive activities will allow visitors to participate in the experience, from printmaking and candle dipping to rope twisting and practicing handwriting with nib pens and ink in the historic schoolhouse.
Live music will fill the church throughout the event, and visitors can warm up with hot chocolate or choose from spirited and non-spirited drinks available for purchase. Valentine’s-themed snack boxes will also be offered.
From 1 to 3 p.m., Burritt will host a special HeArt in Nature Wellness Hike, designed as a slower, more reflective experience along the mountain trails. Participants will search for heart-shaped finds and artistic inspiration in nature before creating a handmade kudzu heart ornament, transforming the invasive vine into a symbol of renewal and creativity.
Food will be available from Big Flavor Tenders and Wings, which will be on site from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“Love, Burritt Day is about opening our doors and bringing people together,” said Melanie Thornton, Burritt’s CEO. “Burritt exists to build community, enhance lives, and preserve history, and days like this create space for families, neighbors, and first-time visitors to feel welcomed and connected.”
Burritt on the Mountain, Huntsville’s first museum, has served the community since 1955. Located atop Round Top Mountain, the site features Dr. William Henry Burritt’s 1938 mansion, a historic park with restored 19th-century structures and a range of educational programs, cultural events and outdoor experiences.
Admission to Love, Burritt Day is free. More information is available at burrittonthemountain.com or on Burritt on the Mountain’s social media pages.
