Career fair provides bridge from high school to workforce

(Huntsville/Madison County Chamber contributed)

HUNTSVILLE — According to Education Business, 37% of high school graduates — regardless of their current education or career — are still not sure they are where they want to be in terms of deciding on a career. Furthermore, 75% of American college students either start their college career as undecided or change their major at least once.

The Huntsville/Madison County Chamber is collaborating with Huntsville City Schools, Madison City Schools, Madison County Schools, community agencies, and local employers to provide career opportunities for graduating high school seniors who have not enrolled in a 2- or 4-year college or university, nor made firm post-graduation plans.

The Senior Sprint Career Fair, April 25 from 9 a.m.- 1 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Huntsville, is designed to create a bridge from high school to the workforce and provide graduates with several career and training opportunities.

The event will help inform the graduating seniors about job and career opportunities after they receive their diplomas.

More than 15 employers are scheduled to attend. Companies interested in attending  must be willing to train and hire graduating seniors.

This event seeks to engage and interview students on the same day.
