HUNTSVILLE — There’s going to be celebration on the mountain next month.
And the community is invited to come on up to Burritt on the Mountain to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Huntsville’s first museum and beloved cultural landmark.
On June 8, the historic site will host “A Mountain Celebration,” an afternoon of music, food, history, and community that reflects the spirit of Burritt’s enduring legacy.
From a gift of the mansion and 167 acres to the city from Dr. William Burritt, the site has become a place where history comes alive, natural beauty inspires, and community connections flourish.
“This celebration is about more than just marking 70 years,” said Burritt CEO Melanie Thornton. “It’s a chance to thank the community that has supported us, enjoy the beauty of the mountain and look ahead to what’s next.”
The event will feature a wide variety of activities. Music will fill the air, with The Sandy River Ramblers performing in the Historic Park and Donnie & Melea playing on the Baron Bluff Veranda.
Across the site, guests will find historic makers, craft activities, and demonstrations from local museums and heritage organizations, offering a deeper look into the region’s past. Weave yourself into Burritt’s history with a community weaving project in the Historic Park.
Huntsville City Councilmember David Little will give a resolution at 2 p.m. and there will be a cakecutting ceremony. The celebration will also include a guided hike at 3 p.m., a raffle, and plenty of family friendly fun — all in honor of Burritt’s role in building community and preserving history.
A BBQ lunch will be served under the Bendickson Family Pavilion, with seating available throughout The View and Lawn, where attendees can enjoy views while they eat.
A full cash and credit bar will also be available, featuring light snacks and a special anniversary mimosa.
Admission follows Burritt’s regular rates, with members receiving free general admission. In honor of the anniversary, BBQ tickets include general admission to the museum.
