HUNTSVILLE — Looking for some holiday fun as Christmas draws near?
Look no further than South Huntsville’s Christmas on the River at Ditto Landing. The community event has become exceedingly popular, with last year’s attendance exceeding 12,500 people, according to organizers.
Now, back for its third year, Christmas on the River has something for everyone in the family. There is no charge for admission to all activities.
This weekend is the music finale with three popular Huntsville artists performing Saturday: Mike Ball at 2 p.m.; Mike Roberts at 4 p.m.; and Sylvia Dean closing out the shows at 6 p.m.
The activities include:
- Christmas Card Lane: Take a stroll to the sounds of Christmas music and check out lifesize Christmas cards. For those who aren’t able to make the mile-long Greenway walk, “Cruisin’ the Cards” is a fun drive the next two Thursdays.
- Fireworks will light up the water Saturday at 7 p.m.
- Reindeer Rails: Enjoy a snow village and model train display featuring two main lines and two trolleys Thursday from 3-7 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 4-8 p.m.; Sunday, 2-6 p.m.; and Dec. 28, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
- Friday Night Movie Night on the State Docks. Watch “Home Alone” on the big screen Friday at 7 p.m. Bring your chairs and blankets and bundle up.
