ATHENS — Here’a chance for downtown businesses to put on a little makeup and dress themselves up for customers.
Athens Main Street is inviting eligible downtown businesses to apply for the Downtown Business Grant Program, made possible by city of Athens funding.
The program is designed to help retailers, restaurants, and personal service businesses invest in permanent, physical improvements that strengthen their businesses and enhance the overall downtown Athens experience.
“We’re thrilled to be able to offer this level of support to our downtown business community,” said Tere Richardson, Athens Main Street executive director. “Whether you’re looking to refresh your storefront, update your interior space, or make your business more accessible, this grant can help turn those ideas into reality. The city of Athens has made a significant investment in our downtown district, and we want to see our local businesses benefit directly from that commitment.
“Don’t hesitate to reach out – even if you’re just thinking about a project. We’re here to help you navigate the process and make the most of this opportunity.”
The deadline to apply is Feb. 9, 2026. Approved projects covered by the grant must be completed by Dec. 31.
Applications will be reviewed based on design compatibility, impact on the downtown district, and overall benefit to the public.
Funding is limited and awarded on a first-come, subject to availability basis, so early submission is encouraged.
