TUSCUMBIA — Craving chicken and dressing, but you don’t want to wait for the holidays or another special occasion? Tuscumbia’s Claunch Cafe has you covered.
With daily specials such as dressing, fried chicken, meatloaf, pot roast, and tomato pie, the hometown business keeps diners coming back for their downhome favorites.
In fact, the cafe’s pecan chicken salad plate was named one of the 100 Dishes To Eat in Alabama. Judges in the state tourism office contest said the dish “has just the right ratio of mayonnaise and pecans to chicken. This dish makes the perfect light lunch, and is served with fresh fruit and a slice of the restaurant’s signature lemon tea bread.”
Open Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the restaurant is inside Spring Park off Main Street in Tuscumbia. Dine-in is available Monday through Thursday. On Sundays, the cafe is curbside only – call in your order or drive up and a staff member will come out and take it. About 10 minutes later, you will be headed home with a delicious, home-cooked Sunday dinner.
Or, if you prefer, walk across the street and choose a picnic table in the open or under the pavilion and enjoy your meal out in nature at Spring Park.
If you consider a meal incomplete without dessert, Claunch Cafe can fulfill that need as well. From spice cake to s’more cake, from caramel apple cake to blackberry wine cake, from hot fudge sundae cake to German chocolate cake, the sweets game is a winner.
The food is wonderful, the portions are generous (usually enough for two meals), and the cost is reasonable. If you like home-cooked meals, you will love Claunch Cafe. And you will be back for more.
