Community Foundation of Greater Huntsville celebrates $100M in grants distributed since 2008

HUNTSVILLE – In a display of the power of generosity, the Community Foundation of Greater Huntsville announced a major milestone of distributing more than $100 million in grants to support nonprofit causes since 2008.

The organization made the announcement today at the Huntsville/Madison County Chamber of Commerce.

According to the foundation, more than 75% of the grants remained in the Community Foundation’s five-county geographic footprint of Jackson, Limestone, Madison, Marshall, and Morgan counties, underscoring its deep commitment to strengthening the communities it serves. Nearly 85% of these grants stayed in the state of Alabama.

“At the Community Foundation, we believe that generosity has the power to change lives, change communities, and even change the future,” said CEO/President Melissa Thompson. “That’s why our mission is to support donors in mobilizing generosity to improve the quality of life in our community. This milestone tells a powerful story about what is possible when generosity is focused and strategic.

“Every dollar granted from our donors reflects a shared belief in our community’s bright future.”

A culture of generosity and gratitude

Founded in 2008, the Community Foundation works with individuals, families, and businesses to simplify giving and amplify impact. Through donor advised funds and other charitable funds, the foundation helps donors be generous, however that looks to them.

Foundation Board Chair Lynn Troy highlighted the collaborative effort behind the milestone and its broader significance.

“Reaching $100 million in grants distributed is more than a financial milestone — it reflects a community rooted in a culture of generosity and gratitude,” she said. “This achievement underscores how deeply we care for one another and is made possible by remarkable donors whose commitment to philanthropy continues to create meaningful and lasting impact.”

As Huntsville and the surrounding region continue to grow and evolve, the foundation said it remains focused on simplifying charitable giving, amplifying community impact, and ensuring generosity continues to be a powerful force for good.
