Community Free Clinic among Huntsville nonprofits selected for Target Circle Community Giving Program

HUNTSVILLE — The Community Free Clinic of Huntsville has been selected to participate in Target’s Circle Community Giving Program, a nationwide initiative that lets shoppers help direct Target funds to local nonprofits.

Target announced the newest group of Huntsville organizations chosen for the program this month. The Community Free Clinic is among those now eligible to receive a share of community-directed funding through guest votes.

“The mission of the Community Free Clinic is to provide quality, free medical care and education to those residing in our community who are without healthcare benefits,” said Shotsie Platt, director of the Community Free Clinic. “Having access to healthcare and life-saving medications improves the quality of life to those with few healthcare options.

“We know that through a healthier lifestyle, our patients can remain more productive members of the community and their families.”

The clinic provides free healthcare, education, and medications to uninsured and low-income residents of Madison County. It is staffed entirely by volunteer physicians, nurses, medical students, and specialists who offer primary and specialty care, including ophthalmology, dermatology, and psychiatry. An on-site dispensary supplies patients with necessary prescriptions, and the clinic’s operations rely on donations and community support.

Through the Target Circle program, members earn votes with each Target purchase and can direct those votes toward participating nonprofits in their community. At the end of the voting period, Target distributes funds based on the percentage of votes each organization receives.

Target’s community giving efforts have already directed more than $26.9 million nationwide to over 5,500 nonprofits. Additional North Alabama nonprofits participating in Target’s program are Family Success Center of Etowah County, Magic Moments and YouthServe.
