Decatur’s favorite Japanese celebration returns

DECATUR – Get ready for an unforgettable evening as Daikin America brings back its beloved Japanese festival to Decatur for the 30th year.

Join us next month for a night of cultural immersion and family-friendly fun at the Daikin Festival. This vibrant event offers a unique opportunity for festivalgoers of all ages to delve into Japanese culture through live music, engaging games, captivating exhibits, and mouthwatering Asian-inspired cuisine.

Mark your calendars for May 3 as Point Mallard Park transforms into a bustling hub of excitement and tradition from 6:30 to 9 p.m.

This year’s festival promises to blend beloved favorites from past years with exciting new activities. Don’t have a Happi coat? No worries! Guests can snag one for free at the festival while supplies last. And if you already own one, be sure to wear it proudly as you enjoy the festivities in true Japanese style.

Experience the thunderous rhythms of the Daikin Taiko Drum Team, sway to the melodies of the Natchez Trace Band, and join in the enchanting sounds of traditional Japanese folk music.

Indulge your taste buds in a culinary journey with an array of delights, including Cajun jambalaya, Japanese Yakisoba, and the delectable Daifukumochi — a sweet treat that is returning this year.

And best of all, food and drinks are complimentary.

For the young ones, there’s a kids’ zone featuring inflatables, temporary tattoos, and entertaining games with exciting prizes up for grabs. Throughout the evening, guests will have the chance to win fabulous door prizes, culminating in a grand prize draw at 8:45 p.m. Simply scan a QR code with your phone, enter your details, and you’re in the running. But remember, winners must be present to claim their prizes.

As the night winds down, prepare to be dazzled by a spectacular fireworks display courtesy of Pyro Shows, bringing the festivities to a thrilling close.

In addition to the entertainment, festivalgoers can explore various displays and exhibits to learn more about Daikin America and its initiatives, including the Daikin Cultural Experience in Japan, offering area students and teachers the chance to experience Japan firsthand.

Please note that for safety reasons, bags, backpacks, large purses, wagons, strollers, and drones are not permitted at the event.
