DECATUR –The River City is set to heat up at the end of the month as the popular Sizzle and Smoke festival brings a day of barbecue, music and family friendly fun to Ingalls Harbor.
A SCA double steak cookoff, Sizzle and Smoke celebrates North Alabama’s rich barbecue traditions and vibrant food culture, drawing pitmasters and food lovers from across the region and beyond.
The Sept. 27 event features a cooking competition showcasing some of the best grill masters in the region to see who has the best steak, ribs, dessert and pork chop. Signup is available here.
The winning steak will earn that competitor a payout of $1,250. The second place steak receives $750, third place $500, fourth place $300, fifth place $200, sixth through tenth place receives $100 each and 11th through 15th place receives $50 each. The winner of the Jackpot Steak earns a SCA Golden Ticket to the SCA World Championship.
The competition also offers ribs and dessert categories, with both paying to third place. Kids can participate to see who has the best pork chop and compete for a payout of up to $125 for first place, $75 for second place and $50 for third place.
The festival runs from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. with the awards presentation set for 6:30 p.m. at Ingalls Harbor, 802 Wilson St.
Admission is free, with food and beverages available for purchase. Proceeds benefit the Tennessee Valley Outreach Homeless Shelter.
