“I’m honored to step into this role,” said Poteat. “Downtown Huntsville is thriving, and I look forward to working with our stakeholders to sustain its growth as the cultural and economic heart of our city.”

Poteat retired in 2022 after a 42-year career with Regions Bank, where he most recently served as area president for North Alabama.

His career also included senior leadership roles in retail banking, customer experience, and market development across North Alabama.

“Ron brings unmatched leadership experience and a deep commitment to Huntsville,” said DHI Board Chair Mark Russell. “His integrity, vision, and steady hand will help DHI continue building momentum downtown during this important transition.”

Poteat serves on the Alabama State Banking Board, the Huntsville Industrial Development Board, the UAH Foundation Board of Trustees, the Huntsville Rotary Club, and as Chair of the Huntsville/Madison County Chamber of Commerce Foundation.
