HUNTSVILLE – Hoping to put a charge into local motorists, the North Alabama chapter of Drive Electric Alabama is hosting a showcase of electric vehicles this weekend.
EV owners will be available for one-on-one conversations with anyone interested in learning more about EVs. At Saturday’s event at MidCity in Huntsville, the owners will share their observations of driving electric every day and can address EV technology, range, charging and affordability.

“There are so many myths about EVs, and the best way to separate fact from fiction is to talk to people who are driving an EV every day,” said Alabama Clean Fuels Coalition President Michael Staley, who drives an all-electric, full-size Chevy pick-up truck. “EV owners love to share their personal experience about the cost savings and performance of these vehicles.
“We hope to see plenty of people come out.”
The federal tax credits for new and used EVs end Sept. 30, prompting automakers to encourage consumers to take advantage before the credits disappear.
There are proximately 15,000 EVs registered in Alabama, and all-electric vehicles make up about 8% of all new vehicle sales in the United States, according to Edmunds.
