HUNTSVILLE — Emmy Award-winning sports broadcaster Lauren Sisler joins Wellstone’s CEO Jeremy Blair as the keynote speaker at the annual Beacon of Hope celebration. The event is May 18 from 5-8 p.m. at the Jackson Center on the HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology campus. Visit here for information.

The Beacon of Hope promotes mental health awareness while eliminating stigmas surrounding mental illness and substance use disorders.

Sisler is a sideline reporter for ESPN/SEC college football and gymnastics, and an advocate for mental health and addiction prevention.

As a college freshman, Sisler lost both of her parents to overdoses within hours of each other. For years, she struggled to acknowledge the truth about their concealed battle with addiction, but through her journey of grief, Sisler emerged from the shadows of shame, embraced her story, and found hope again.

“In my job, I find the truth in athletes’ stories and report on how their personal lives shaped who they are,” said Sisler. “And yet the shame I inherited stopped me from telling the truth about my own story.”

Her message, “Unlocking the Shackles of Shame,” tells how her tragic story ignited purpose and gratitude in her life.

She will also share her message about how WellStone is providing hope and healing for those facing mental health disorders and addiction in our community.

Guests to will also hear from WellStone CEO Jeremy Blair and individuals from the Madison County community who have overcome significant mental health challenges through their own journeys to recovery.
