HUNTSVILLE — Highlighting the diverse dance traditions in the community, local cultural dance groups and dancers will perform in the annual Community Dance Festival and Showcase.
Presented by the Evalyn Washington Humphrey Foundation for Arts and Education (E Foundation), the event is set for Saturday at the Academy for Academics and Arts.
“We are proud to provide this platform for local artists and performers to shine,” said Thandiwe Gooden, board president of the E Foundation. “This event not only highlights the importance of cultural expression through dance but also reinforces our mission to foster community connection through the arts.”
The event will showcase performances from Bollywood, West African, Irish groups and more, each representing a distinct dance style, from traditional folk dances to contemporary pieces, offering a rich tapestry of artistic expression.
In addition to the performances, the festival will offer a series of interactive workshops led by professional dancers, allowing attendees of all ages and skill levels to explore different dance techniques and styles.
The Community Dance Festival and Showcase is open to all, whether a dancer, a dance lover, or simply curious about learning more about the art form. The event is free and open to the public. Registration is free but is required.
The Dance Lab and Community Dance Festival and Showcase are made possible through the support of the Alabama State Council on the Arts, Arts IDEA Grant from Arts Huntsville funded by the city of Huntsville, State Rep. Laura Hall, and the Alabama Tourism Department.
