Giveaways, free soft toys for children, and a $10,000 community donation will mark the grand opening of Alabama’s first IKEA store when the global home furnishings retailer celebrates its Huntsville debut on Wednesday, February 25.
Festivities begin at 8 a.m., with customers able to line up starting at 7 a.m. Early visitors may receive gift cards and IKEA products while supplies last, and the first 100 children will receive complimentary soft toys.
The opening marks a milestone for North Alabama, bringing IKEA’s first-ever location in the state to the University Place Shopping Center at 6125 University Place Drive.
“As we expand our presence in the U.S., we’re excited to introduce the IKEA experience to North Alabama, marking our very first location in the state,” said Rob Olson, interim CEO of IKEA U.S. “IKEA Huntsville reflects our dedication to serving customers where they are and providing innovative, affordable solutions that make everyday life better.”
The 46,000-square-foot store features more than 5,000 home furnishing products and fully furnished room displays designed to inspire customers. More than 2,000 items will be available for immediate purchase and takeaway.
Customers will also have access to personalized design consultation areas, an “As-Is” section offering discounted and sustainable furnishing options, and a food experience serving IKEA favorites such as meatballs, plant balls, hot dogs, and veggie dogs.
“We’re thrilled to open IKEA Huntsville and join the vibrant community in North Alabama,” said Brad Ellis, Store Manager. “Whether you’re furnishing your very first place, refreshing a room or popping in for your favorite Swedish bites, we can’t wait to welcome you to IKEA Huntsville.”
As part of its community engagement efforts, IKEA Huntsville will donate $10,000 to Crisis Services of North Alabama.
Regular store hours will be 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.
The Huntsville opening is part of IKEA U.S.’ broader expansion strategy, supported by a $2.2 billion investment aimed at expanding accessibility and strengthening its retail and online presence across the country.
