Grants help raise the curtain for 2025 Southern Fried Film Festival

HUNTSVILLE – Lights! Camera! Action!

And, thanks to several grants, the Southern Fried Film Festival will be on Huntsville’s entertainment marquee this summer.

The local and state grants will help boost the annual showcase of exceptional films and filmmakers from around the globe.

“We are incredibly grateful for the generous support from Arts Huntsville, the City of Huntsville, and the Alabama State Council on the Arts,” said festival founder and Director Trevite Willis. “These grants, totaling $31,992, are a testament to the festival’s growing impact and will allow us to create an even more enriching experience for our attendees.

“The ability to bring filmmakers to Huntsville and provide opportunities for direct interaction with audiences is invaluable.”

The festival has been awarded a $14,292 Arts and Cultural Grant from Arts Huntsville and the city of Huntsville — a significant expression of the local community’s commitment to supporting the arts, according to a news release.

In addition, the festival received two grants from the Alabama State Council on the Arts, one for $12,600 and another for $5,100, reinforcing the state’s recognition of the festival’s cultural impact.

“The Alabama State Council on the Arts is proud to support the Southern Fried Film Festival,” said Dr. Elliot Knight, executive director of Alabama State Council on the Arts. “Our grants are designed to strengthen cultural expression, bolster our state’s creative economy, support artists and audiences, and improve the quality of life across Alabama. The Southern Fried Film Festival exemplifies these goals.”

The grants will help festival organizers to reach wider audiences, deliver top-tier programming, and bring filmmakers to Huntsville, facilitating direct interaction with film lovers.

The audiences can look forward to post-film screening Q&A sessions and engaging panel discussions throughout the weekend.

Organizers said the funding underscores the festival’s significant contribution to fostering connections among Alabama’s communities, enhancing the quality of life for residents, and invigorating the state’s arts and culture sector.

The Southern Fried Film Festival is June 5-8 at locations around the Rocket City. For information, visit southernfriedfilmfestival.org.
