HUNTSVILLE — There will be a Huntsville connection to next month’s Major League Soccer All-Star festivities in Washington, D.C.

Huntsville City FC goalkeeper Ben Martino will be one of four goalkeepers to participate in the Goalie Wars Exhibition at the 2023 MLS All-Star Skills Challenge presented by AT&T 5G, MLS and MLS NEXT Pro announced.

The event, which will take place in Washington, D.C., July 18 at 6:30 p.m. It can be watched live on MLS Season Pass on the Apple TV app.

Martino, on loan from the parent Nashville Soccer Club, learned of the news from Huntsville City Head Coach Jack Collison and his teammates in a special message played at GEODIS Park, the home of Nashville SC.

Footage of that special message and Martino’s reaction can be found here.

Goalie Wars will feature four MLS NEXT Pro goalies – Martino; Damian Las, Austin FC II; Xavier Valdez, Houston Dynamo 2; and Isaac Walker, Crown Legacy FC – facing off one-on-one in a single-elimination competition.

During three 90-second rounds, each goalkeeper will defend net while trying to score on his opponent by throwing, kicking or drop-kicking the ball. For more information on the rules and regulations, click here.

Martino and Huntsville City FC will be in action Sunday when New England Revolution II visits Wicks Family Field at Joe Davis Stadium. Kickoff is 6 p.m. Tickets for the match can be purchased here.
