Hicklen a Brewer in name only; Huntsville High grad traded to Detroit

DETROIT — The answer to a Milwaukee Brewers’ trivia question is no longer on the American League team’s roster.

Brewer Hicklen, who was the only player named Brewer to play for Milwaukee, was traded this week to the Detroit Tigers in a cash deal.

A Huntsville High grad, Hicklen, 29, batted .246 with 22 home runs and stole 44 bases at Nashville, Milwaukee’s Triple-A, last season.

Hicklen has played nine games in his MLB career: Six games for the Kansas City Royals in 2022 and three games for the Brewers in 2024. He is 0-for-9 with eight strikeouts.

After the trade, Hicklen, who played collegiately at Alabama-Birmingham, was assigned to the Toledo Mud Hens, Detroit’s Triple-A affiliate.
