‘HudsonAlpha U’: Biotech institute’s public education series returns

HUNTSVILLE — There may not be sports teams or even a mascot, but HudsonAlpha U opens next month for its next session.

The public is invited to learn more about the power of genomics as Kelly East, HudsonAlpha’s vice president of HudsonAlpha Educational Outreach and a certified genetic counselor, hosts the next “HudsonAlpha U.” The event is 6 p.m. Sept. 16 at the Jackson Center, 6001 Moquin Drive.

East will discuss polygenic risk scores, explain what they are, the research behind them and how they may shape the future of healthcare.

Participants will explore the field of ancestry genetics and learn how genetic testing can help unlock details about the past. East will also highlight recent research and news stories highlighting ethical and social considerations involved in ancestry genetics.
