Huntsville among U-Haul’s top 10 growth cities

(U-Haul contributed)

PHOENIX – Huntsville is literally moving and shaking growth trends, according to U-Haul’s top 25 U.S. Growth Cities of 2022.

The Rocket City is ranked No. 9 on the U-Haul list with Alabama ranked No. 20 in statewide growth. Auburn/Opelika topped Huntsville at No. 5.

The rankings taken from the U-Haul Growth Index are compiled according to the net gain of one-way U-Haul trucks arriving in a city or state as opposed to trucks departing in a calendar year.

An authority on migration trends due to its expansive network that blankets all 50 states and 10 Canadian provinces, the geographical coverage from 23,000 U-Haul truck-and trailer-sharing locations provides a broad but accurate overview of where people are moving.

The U-Haul migration trends data is included in the ranking and is compiled from more than 2 million one-way U-Haul truck transactions that occur annually across the U.S. and Canada.

While U-Haul migration trends do not correlate directly to population or economic growth, the U-Haul Growth Index is an effective gauge of how well cities and states are attracting and maintaining residents.

Topping the Top 25 list of growth cities is Ocala, Fla., with three other Florida cities listed in the top 25 including Palm Bay/Melbourne, North Port and Lakeland.
