Huntsville Animal Services, HAWS to host free pet food drive-thru event

HUNTSVILLE – To help pet owners affected by the ongoing government shutdown, Huntsville Animal Services is partnering with H.A.W.S. (Helping Animals Without Shelter) to host a free pet food drive-thru event next weekend.

The free, rain-or-shine event will be next Sunday from 1-4 p.m. at Tractor Supply on North Memorial Parkway.

During the event, volunteers and staff will distribute free pet food, no questions asked and no restrictions, to ensure local families can continue caring for their beloved pets.

Attendees are encouraged to pull up to the distribution area, stay in their vehicles, and receive pet food from Animal Services staff and H.A.W.S. volunteers.

“We know this shutdown has placed a strain on many households, and we want to help keep families and their pets together,” said Animal Services Director John Fischer. “Pets bring comfort, support and companionship during difficult times. By offering free pet food, we hope to ease one burden and help ensure pets stay fed, healthy and at home where they belong.”

Animal Services is purchasing and providing a portion of the food distributed. The drive-thru model ensures a quick, contact-free experience for participants.

A full list of available dogs and cats can be found here.

Animal Services is open Mondays and Wednesdays through Fridays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Tuesdays, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
