HUNTSVILLE — Huntsville City FC has been named MLS NEXT Pro Team of Matchday 16, the league announced today.
The accolade comes after Huntsville’s dominant 6-2 victory last Sunday over Orlando City B. The win extended the team’s home unbeaten streak to four games and was the most goals scored in a game for HCFC.
This is the second time this season Huntsville City FC has been awarded MLS NEXT Pro Team of Matchday. The team received the honor on Matchday 9 following its 2-1 win over Crown Legacy in the May 19 home opener.
Also, the league announced Joey Skinner’s goal, the sixth of the night for Huntsville last Sunday, has been nominated for MLS NEXT Pro Goal of Matchweek 16. Fans can vote for him on the league’s twitter account here.
Skinner’s goal came in the 78th minute on a curling shot from outside the box. Kemy Amiche assisted on the goal – his second of the match. He is tied with Ollie Wright to lead the team in assists with 5.
Earlier, Amiche scored his team-leading sixth goal of the season in the 55th minute to give HCFC a 5-1 lead.
Perhaps the most exciting goal of the night came just four minutes earlier. Josh Drack bicycle-kicked a ball to Wright, who then found Azaad Liadi to fire the ball into the back of the net and a 4-1 lead.
Huntsville City FC (5W-7L-4D, 3SOW) will be back in action Sunday when Toronto FC II (3-10-4-2) visits Wicks Family Field at Joe Davis Stadium. Kickoff is 6 p.m. Tickets for the match can be purchased here.
