The Alabama Fraternal Order of Police’s Huntsville chapter has endorsed Tim Douthit in his bid for Madison County district judge, adding to a growing list of local support ahead of the Republican primary.

The endorsement signals backing from law enforcement officers in the region, with officials citing Douthit’s experience and approach to the justice system.

“Tim Douthit understands the law, respects law enforcement, and will serve with integrity on the bench,” said Jay King, national trustee of Huntsville’s FOP. “Our members believe he has the experience, temperament, and dedication needed to be an outstanding District Judge.”

Douthit said he was honored to receive the endorsement.

“The men and women of law enforcement work tirelessly to protect our communities,” he said. “Their support is humbling, and if elected, I will ensure the law is applied fairly, consistently, and with the safety of our citizens in mind.”

The endorsement follows a recent show of support from the Madison County Farmers Federation, which also backed Douthit in the May 19 Republican primary.

“Farmers in Madison County are looking forward to working with Judge Douthit,” said Rex Vaughn. “He is a man of integrity, true leadership and believes in hard work.”

Douthit, who was appointed to the district judge position in January by Governor Ivey, previously served as chief trial attorney in the Madison County District Attorney’s Office under Rob Broussard.

During his tenure, he oversaw felony prosecutions and handled cases ranging from violent crimes to crimes against children.

A graduate of Troy University and Cumberland School of Law, Douthit began his legal career in private practice before serving as a prosecutor in Mobile and later in Madison County.

The Republican primary is on May 19.
