Huntsville kicks off year-long celebration of America’s 250th anniversary

HUNTSVILLE – There wasn’t a fife-and-drum corps playing “Yankee Doodle” nor a cannon salute, but the city of Huntsville launched its year-long celebration of America’s 250th anniversary.

Mayor Tommy Battle made the declaration with the formation of the Huntsville Salutes America’s 250th Committee.

The 15-member committee will lead a coordinated effort to honor the nation’s founding through civic events, cultural programming and historical reflection leading up to the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 2026.

“As we look to our country’s semiquincentennial, we have a unique opportunity to reflect on where we’ve been and envision where we’re going,” Battle said. “Huntsville’s legacy of innovation, service and community spirit makes it the perfect place to celebrate our shared American story.”

Residents are encouraged to participate in the celebration and follow updates on the city’s website and social media channels.
