Huntsville/Madison County Chamber installs 2022 board chair; Joe Newberry honored with Distinguished Service Award

The Huntsville/Madison County Chamber of Commerce’s 2021 board chair Jeff Gronberg passed the gavel to new 2022 board chair Greg Brown during the Chamber’s 86th Annual Membership Meeting at the Von Braun Center North Hall this week.

In his last official act as chair, Gronberg also presented Joe Newberry, president and CEO of Redstone Federal Credit Union, with the Distinguished Service Award, the highest honor the Chamber bestows on a volunteer in the Huntsville/Madison County community.

As co-CEO and CFO of Brown Precision, Inc., Brown has been a longtime member of the Chamber and active member of the board of directors. His history of executive management, business development and finance make him an excellent choice for the chair position this year.

In addition to his business role with RFCU, Newberry has an extensive record of community service, including volunteer roles with the American Red Cross, United Way, Rotary Club, U.S. Space & Rocket Center and the Alabama Constitution Village Foundation.

“Joe is incredibly deserving, but also one of the humblest people I know,” said Gronberg. “Not only does he direct a great organization with fantastic people, but he also leads by example, demonstrating how we should all be servant leaders in the community.”

Newberry was indeed gracious in his acceptance of the prestigious recognition.

“I believe in this Chamber,” he said. “I love this Chamber. I love the collaboration of coming together to make so many great things happen in our community.”

The Chamber’s Annual Membership Meeting is an opportunity to update members and community leaders on the past year, and to share their vision for the year ahead. They also distributed their 2021 Annual Report, which can be found here.

Noted top 50 professional futurist, economist, best-selling author and entrepreneur, Rebecca Ryan, founder of NEXT Generation Consulting, was the featured keynote speaker for the luncheon. She discussed strategies in urban planning, economic development and workforce development to ensure communities are well equipped for future trends and challenges.
