HUNTSVILLE – With a call to earn the respect of Huntsville and their fellow officers, 11 new members of the Huntsville Police Department received their badges today.
The department formally welcomed the newest officers to its ranks, celebrating the graduation of the 73rd Academy Session and the commitment of this new class ready to serve the community.
The ceremony at the Alabama School of Cyber Technology and Engineering was attended by city officials, HPD’s command staff, academy training advisors and the officers’ families and friends.
Police Chief Kirk Giles commended the class for the determination and integrity they demonstrated throughout the academy.
“All of us who wear this badge have a responsibility to not only carry the title of police officer, but to be worthy of it,” he said. “Now, every day, you must earn the respect of your fellow officers as well as the citizens of Huntsville.”
After 19 weeks of rigorous, hands-on training, the following recruits earned their badges and titles as HPD officers:
- Jacob Adams
- Brett Driggers
- Cecil Flanigan
- David Kim
- Edgar Montoya
- Mark Moore
- Justin Pratt
- Noah Reed
- Jabraun Rice
- Jon Turis
- Alexander Volesky
Mayor Tommy Battle offered strong support for the department and the new officers stepping into service.
“Our residents have confidence in their police officers because of the way HPD serves this city: with professionalism, compassion and an unwavering commitment to public safety,” Battle said. “That trust, and our consistently low crime rates, are the direct result of the work our officers do every single day.
“You now join that legacy.”
The 11 graduates will now enter the Field Training Officer phase, where they will spend 14 weeks applying what they learned in the academy in real-life situations.
