Huntsville Utilities announces late fees and disconnects will resume in January

HUNTSVILLE – Huntsville Utilities will resume assessing late fees and disconnecting service for non-payment beginning Jan. 5, 2026. Customers with unpaid account balances after this date may incur a late fee or face service disconnection, the utility said today.

The suspension of late fees and disconnections, in place since Aug. 11, was part of the utility’s transition to a new enterprise software system. The policy was later extended during the recent government shutdown to support customers experiencing financial hardship.

Customers who are concerned about bringing their accounts current before Jan. 5 are encouraged to contact the Customer Contact Center as soon as possible at 256-535-1200 or by emailing [email protected].
