MADISON — It’s a slam dunk for basketball fans.

The inaugural 2023 Rocket City Pro-Am Basketball Classic comes to James Clemons High School Aug. 5-6. Up to 16 teams will compete for a $5,000 prize over the two-day tournament.

The tournament is followed by a block party with music, games and food trucks.

According to organizers, the Rocket City Basketball Pro-Am was formed to bring together basketball enthusiasts, and to showcase the basketball talent in the Rocket City area. It creates a platform for players at all levels to compete, entertain fans, and foster a strong basketball community.

The Rocket City Basketball Pro-Am is modeled after the highly successful Drew League in Los Angeles, organizers said. The league has become an iconic institution and platform for showcasing urban basketball talent.

Both leagues share a commitment to community engagement, fostering a sense of pride, and showcasing the raw talent that thrives on the streets and courts of cities across the country.
