HUNTSVILLE — In a “milestone moment,” Gov. Kay Ivey helped cut the ribbon Wednesday for Discovery Life Science’s global headquarters at the HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology in Huntsville.
“When Discovery chose the HudsonAlpha Biotech Campus in Huntsville for its global headquarters, I knew this was a milestone moment for Alabama as we work to recruit other life science companies to the state,” said Ivey.
Ivey then praised HudsonAlpha and Discovery Life Science’s purpose.
“In every groundbreaking and ribbon cutting and, most importantly, every major discovery, this world-leading firm has continuously put Alabama on the map in a very big way,” she said. “Make no mistake about it, HudsonAlpha is a shining example of success that can be found in Alabama.
“This is a globally renowned firm that has made numerous breakthroughs in its mission to accelerate the research and development of new therapies, diagnostics, and technology in the mobile health care industry.”
HudsonAlpha President Dr. Neil Lamb emphasized the significance of Discovery Life’s decision to place their headquarters within Huntsville.
“This is one of the few global headquarters located in Huntsville and Alabama and we couldn’t be more proud to count them as part of the HudsonAlpha campus,” Lamb said. “It’s especially exciting since the origins of Discovery Life Sciences lead back to one of HudsonAlpha’s original associate companies in 2008.”
Mayor Tommy Battle touted the city’s biotech industry and its steady growth.
“If we look in this community, we have taken a community and we have formed a biotech industry right here. A biotech industry that will grow forever and the industry will service our community but our world for generations to come. Something that we should be very proud of.
“You made it where Huntsville, Alabama is doing great things that effect the whole world, that make the world a better place.”
