Man charged with reckless murder in shooting death of unborn child

HUNTSVILLE – A Huntsville man was arrested today in connection with the shooting death of an unborn child Saturday.

Huntsville Police arrested and charged Dequerius Amar Clayborn, 27, of Huntsville with reckless murder and first-degree assault in connection to the shooting Saturday on Binford Drive. He was booked into the Madison County Jail today.

When officers arrived at 3:30 p.m. in the 200 block of Binford Drive, they found a 24-year-old female victim with a gunshot wound and Clayborn with a gun. The victim was quickly transported to Huntsville Hospital for treatment and Clayborn was detained.

During the department’s preliminary investigation, it was believed that Clayborn mishandled his firearm and accidentally shot the female victim.

HPD investigators spoke with the victim today and learned she was pregnant at the time of the shooting, which resulted in the death of her child. The woman is currently in stable condition at Huntsville Hospital.
