HUNTSVILLE — The signs are all around us.
Well, not exactly, but in the coming months digital highway signs will be placed inĀ Huntsville.
The city and the Alabama Department of Transportation entered into a funding agreement that will place digital highway message signs on Memorial Parkway, Governors Drive and U.S. 72 near Chapman Mountain. The exact locations have not been determined.
The signs will be similar to the two that are on Interstate 565. A third message board on I-565 is in the process of completion.
āWe have experienced the benefits of this technology on Interstate 565 and we look forward to the construction of more message boards,ā Mayor Tommy Battle said. āThese signs inform drivers about whatās ahead and will make our roadways even safer.ā
The agreement, approved by the City Council, totals $3.1 million. The Federal Carbon Reduction Program will cover 80% of the cost ($2.48 million) and thecity will cover 20% ($640,000).
