U.S. Rep. Dale Strong (R-Huntsville) announced that the U.S. Postal Service is moving forward with plans to construct a new post office to serve the rapidly growing 35763 zip code in southeastern Madison County.
“I am pleased that USPS is moving forward on plans to construct a new facility in the 35763-zip code to keep pace with residential development and southeastern Madison County’s unprecedented population growth,” said Congressman Dale Strong. “My constituents should be able to count on the postal service to deliver mail securely and on time, and I am hopeful this new facility will accomplish just that.”
Strong’s office said he began raising concerns with USPS leadership early in his term about mail delivery issues across North Alabama, including delivery delays, staffing shortages, facility limitations and long-standing zip code and routing challenges affecting residents throughout the Fifth District.
“While this is a step in the right direction for the residents of the 35763-zip code, there is more work to be done across North Alabama. I will continue to press USPS leadership for improved staffing, upgraded facilities, and better mail processing operations so that every community in our district receives the reliable service they deserve,” said Strong.
According to Strong’s office, the congressman has spent the past three years advocating for improvements to postal operations across North Alabama. Those efforts include:
- Leading the push for a new post office to serve the rapidly growing 35763 zip code.
- Pressing USPS to establish a standalone North Alabama processing and distribution facility, including sending letters to former Postmaster General Louis DeJoy and meeting with postal leadership about service gaps.
- Securing congressional language requiring USPS to evaluate consolidation of Huntsville’s Processing and Distribution Center and review delivery delays.
- Obtaining an appropriations provision directing USPS to review inaccurate address listings and overlapping zip code designations, including long-standing issues affecting residents in Priceville.
- Assisting hundreds of constituents with cases involving lost, delayed or misrouted mail.
The planned facility is intended to help meet demand for mail services in southeastern Madison County, where rapid residential development has placed additional strain on existing postal operations. Officials say the new location will better serve residents and businesses in the expanding 35763 zip code.
