Huntsville’s continued retail growth is drawing another nationally recognized brand to North Alabama, with Nordstrom Rack announcing plans to open a new store in the city in spring 2027.

The Seattle-based retailer said the new location will be built at University Plaza near the intersection of University Drive and Old Monrovia Road. The approximately 24,000-square-foot store will join the shopping center anchored by Best Buy.

The announcement marks another sign of Huntsville’s continued retail growth as national brands expand into the North Alabama market.

“We look forward to being a part of the Huntsville community and serving our customers with an amazing offering of great brands at great prices,” said Gemma Lionello, president of Nordstrom Rack. “We’re excited to grow our footprint in the Huntsville market and introduce new customers to the Nordstrom experience.”

Lionello added that customers at the Huntsville location will be able to take advantage of services including online order pickup from both Nordstrom.com and NordstromRack.com, along with convenient returns.

According to Nordstrom, the company currently operates one Nordstrom Rack location in Alabama, generating more than 35 jobs statewide while continuing to expand its economic impact in the state.
