North Alabama about to getta whole lotta Whataburger

ATHENS – With the newest Whataburger opening its drive-thru service next week in Athens, the burger chain has formed a partnership with local franchise group MWB Restaurants to serve up seven more Whataburger restaurants in North Alabama through next year.

The locations are in Albertville, Madison, Scottsboro, Hazel Green, Huntsville, Cullman and Florence.

The Athens restaurant on U.S. 72, near the I-65 interchange, opens 11 a.m. Tuesday with 24/7 drive-thru service only. However, they will roll out dining room access, Whataburger App ordering, and Whataburger.com, the restaurant’s curbside and delivery service, over the next few weeks.

The store plans to hire 120 employees led by Operating Partner Shenequa Phipps, a foreshadowing of the employment numbers Whataburger plans to bring to North Alabama with their additional locations.

In the next few weeks, the franchise will open on U.S. 431 in Albertville and U.S. 72 in Madison.

Next year’s openings are at 23065 John T. Reid Parkway in Scottsboro; 14739 U.S. 231 in Hazel Green; 5850 University Drive in Huntsville; 2015 Cherokee Ave., in Cullman; and at 1562 Florence Blvd., in Florence.

Known for its customized burgers, fancy and spicy ketchup, and somewhat retro orange-and-white-striped fun, there is nothing retroactive about the Whataburger menu. The lineup includes the Corn Chip Crunch burger, breakfast burritos, chicken sandwiches, fresh salads and thick milkshakes including the new white chocolate raspberry shake.
