Northwest Shoals Community College has named Andrew Jones as the new head coach of its women’s flag football program, the college announced Monday.

Patriots Athletics Executive Director Taylor Franks said Jones brings experience from a successful high school flag football program at Auburn High School and a vision for continuing to grow the program.

“We are excited to welcome Coach Jones to the Patriots,” Franks said. “He comes from a successful flag football program at Auburn High School and comes to us with a plan on how to build our young women into successful student-athletes on and off the field.”

Jones joins Northwest Shoals with experience as both a collegiate athlete and coach, having worked in men’s and women’s track and field, as well as flag football.

“I am honored for the opportunity to lead the women’s flag football program at Northwest Shoals,” Jones said. “I had the opportunity to meet our team on a video call, and I cannot wait to get to work with them.”

Jones said the team is eager to begin building the program despite a condensed timeline before the upcoming season.

“We have a lot of work to do in a short period of time, but I can tell they are just as hungry as I am to build something special,” he said.

The college said a limited number of roster spots remain available for the upcoming season. Interested athletes can contact the athletics department for additional information.

Northwest Shoals Community College is part of the Alabama Community College System and serves more than 5,000 students across its campuses.
