School is starting across the Valley and State Sen. Arthur Orr (R-Decatur) is helping various districts with their capital needs.
Orr worked with the Decatur City Schools Foundation to deliver career tech equipment to the Career Academies of Decatur last week.
Orr said the state has significantly increased career tech funding in Montgomery as well, noting that not every student is headed to college and will need practical skills by graduation to enter the workforce at competitive pay.
“Graduating students with no skills training makes it tough to get out on their own at low paying entry level jobs,” he wrote. “HS needs to be a training ground to equip all students for success in the future.”
The academy’s hands-on programs are designed to align with local job opportunities, and the new equipment is meant to strengthen that training.
Orr represents District 3, which includes Morgan County and parts of Limestone and Madison counties. He has long advocated for career tech education as area employers continue to search for workers who can step directly into the job market.
As districts finish final preparations for the school year, this kind of support is aimed at giving students more ways to prepare for the future — whether they’re headed to college or straight into the workforce.
