‘Pop Up Series’, Trash Pandas jersey auctions are a hit for local non-profits

MADISON — The Rocket City Trash Pandas Foundation had the force on its side and received a boost from some “friends” to help area non-profits this season.

And team officials are hoping for some out-of-this-world support Saturday.

The non-profit arm of the Minor League Baseball team organization has raised more than $30,000 this season through jersey auctions and nearly $40,000 from a “pop-up series” in June.

  • The “Star Wars” jersey auction in May raised $13,262.50 to benefit Reach and Teach.
  • The Marvel themed jersey auction in June collected $4,339 for the Alzheimer’s Association.
  • The “Friends” jersey auction last month raised $13,223.21 with the proceeds going to the Miracle League of North Alabama.

There are three more jersey auctions scheduled for this season.

  • Space Night jerseys – Saturday
  • Wedding tuxedo jerseys – Aug. 31
  • Huntsville Stars tribute jerseys – Sept. 7

Additionally, the Trash Pandas Foundation raised $39,173 during the team’s “pop-up series” June 13-16 against the Mississippi Braves.

Due to unplayable field conditions in Mississippi, the two teams played a unique five-game series in four days at Toyota Field.

The Braves were the home team while the Trash Pandas were the visitors on their home field.

Ticket proceeds benefited the foundation and all reserved seats were $10 (plus tax). Parking at Toyota Field was complimentary throughout the five-game Father’s Day weekend series.

The Trash Pandas Foundation is the club’s 501(c)3 non-profit organization. The foundation is dedicated to educating and promoting healthy lifestyles through sport and positively impacting communities in the North Alabama region.
