Road projects slated in Morgan, Cullman counties

HUNTSVILLE — Motorists in Morgan and Cullman counties should expect possible delays in travel this week with several road projects scheduled.

The Alabama Department of Transportation said delays due to single-lane closures and traffic controlled by flaggers or pilot car are likely. Motorists are urged to plan additional travel time, reduce speed and drive with caution in the work zone.

  • Repaving about five miles of Alabama 36 in Morgan County will begin Wednesday, weather permitting. The $1.5 million project with contractor Wiregrass Construction will mill and repave from U.S. 31 in Hartselle to New Cut Road near Danville.
The project is anticipated to be complete this fall.
  • Improving intersections on U.S. 31 in Hartselle is anticipated to begin this week. The nearly $2 million project will construct or improve turn lanes between Sparkman Street/Lane Road and Curry Street to improve traffic flow and safety. The project also includes construction of concrete medians and new roadway lighting.
The contractor, Wiregrass Construction, anticipates sign installation early in the week, with work to follow later in the week if weather permits.
The project is anticipated to be complete around the end of the year.
  • Alabama 91 near Arkadelphia in Cullman County will be closed to traffic for bridge repairs on three consecutive days this week. Weather permitting, ALDOT crews will be working from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. daily. Wednesday through Friday.
Message boards will be in place at key intersections advising motorists of the detour to Alabama 69.
