Runoff rundown: Who’s in, who’s out

NORTH ALABAMA — Read to see who’s in and who’s out after Tuesday’s runoff elections across the region. From Guntersville to Madison, the ballots were counted and the margins were clear…at least for those races where more than a handful of residents turned out.

In Guntersville, incumbent Leigh Dollar easily secured the mayor’s seat in Tuesday’s municipal runoff after a surprise tie in the general election. Dollar earned 1,721 votes (58.5%) to defeat Jeff McLaughlin, who collected 1,221 votes (41.5%).

In Boaz, Tim Walker claimed the mayoral post with 1,022 votes (61.1%) over Jana Pair’s 650 votes (38.9%) in the runoff. On the Boaz City Council races, Steven Bates (Place 2) won with 920 votes (55.7%) over Riley Young (731, 44.3%), and Alan Hales (Place 3) prevailed with 1,010 votes (61.3%) against Kevin Brooks Jr. (637, 38.7%).

In the Florence City Council District 5 runoff, Thomas Spence edged out Brandon Balentine 427 to 350 (55%–45%).

In Decatur’s District 4 council race, Pam Werstler captured the seat with 562 votes (62.9%) compared to Sarah French’s 332 (37.1%).

Athens City Council District 3 went to James Lucas with 287 votes (58.9%) over Henry White’s 200 (41.1%).

Madison’s District 6 council runoff saw Erica White take the win with 751 votes (62.3%) over Scott Harbour’s 454 (37.7%).

In Fort Payne’s at-large city council race, the margin was narrow: Mike Grant received 601 votes, defeating Scotty Vaughn’s 528.

Moulton’s mayoral runoff went to challenger Ryan Jolly over incumbent Roger Weatherwax.  However, there is still no clear winner in the Moulton City Council District 1 race.  Danny Morris led with 39 votes (39.8%), followed by Raegan Eaves with 36 (36.7%) and Marsha Farris with 23 (23.5%). Officials say a second runoff will be conducted October 28.
