BOAZ – It’s been more than 2 1/2 months since the Boaz flag football team lost a game.
And, as they prepare to host an AHSAA Class 1A/5A semifinal game Wednesday, the Pirates (14-1) get a chance to clear that blemish on their record.
Boaz lost to Moody on Sept. 8 and Wednesday they have a rematch with the Blue Devils (20-3) in the North semifinal – the Pirates’ first Final Four appearance.
The South semifinal features defending state champion Montgomery Catholic (20-4) hosting Brewbaker Tech (14-3), also of Montgomery.
The winners advance to the AHSAA Super 7 Flag Football Championships at Birmingham’s Protective Stadium on Dec. 3. Kickoff is 11 a.m.

Sophomore quarterback Peyton Hall has been the catalyst for Boaz this season. In 15 games, she has completed 189-of-295 passes for 1,815 yards and 32 touchdowns while rushing for 854 yards and 20 TDs on 89 carries.
Hall ranks second in the AHSAA in rushing, according to MaxPreps, and leads the AHSAA in rushing TDs. She rushed for 145 yards and all four of the Pirates’ touchdowns in last week’s 25-12 win over John Carroll Catholic in the 1A/5A quarterfinals.
For Moody, Serenity Rutledge passed for two touchdowns and had two interceptions on the defensive side in the Blue Devils’ 41-12 quarterfinal win over Northside (19-2) Sophie White caught one TD pass and rushed for 119 yards on seven carries with a 56-yard TD run in the quarterfinal win. Zoey Terry also had a 26-yard TD reception for Moody.
Elsewhere, Vestavia Hills (27-1) is riding a 26-game winning streak into Wednesday’s Class 6A/7A North semifinal battle with Spain Park at Vestavia. Defending 7A state champion Central-Phenix City (18-0) hosts Smiths Station (13-3) in the other semifinal game tonight at 6 p.m.
