Sheffield’s Old Town Grille & Creamery offers filling meals and sweet treats

SHEFFIELD — Settle in at one of the vintage blue picnic tables at Old Town Grille & Creamery in downtown Sheffield and you’ll notice your mouth begins to water as your eyes peruse the menu.

From thick, juicy pork chops to cheeseburgers; from homemade potato chips loaded with chicken, bacon, and cheese to the gigantic ice cream sundaes and banana splits, this restaurant is sure to satisfy even the pickiest eater. After all, they also have chicken tenders on the menu.

Brittany and Heath White opened Old Town Grille in August in a revitalized downtown Sheffield. Brittany White and her parents ran a restaurant in Erin, Tenn., before she and Heath moved to the Shoals.

“I’ve worked in restaurants since I was 14,” Brittany White said. “When my parents closed their place, Heath and I took it over and ran it from 2019-2021. It became a hangout for the teenagers in town and we enjoyed spending time with them.”

However, a series of tragedies led the Whites to change course. One of their young friends died in an automobile accident and, shortly after that, Brittany’s father passed away. Then came the Tennessee floods.

They ended up closing their family restaurant and moving to Florida for six months before ending up in the Shoals where Heath White has family.

“It was a heartbreaking time,” Brittany White said. “We said we would never run another restaurant.”

Yet, after driving through downtown Sheffield and a few meetings with city officials, the Whites decided the timing was right to try again and Old Town Grille and Creamery was born.

“We love the small town feel of Sheffield and the community,” Brittany White said. “Our place is family-oriented and we can bring my three children here and have them be involved.”

Brittany runs the restaurant and Heath does the cooking.

Old Town Grille is a casual restaurant where the food is cooked to order – literally.

“We hand cut pork chops and steaks upon order,” Brittany White said. “Everything is cooked in the order it is received. Nothing sits waiting under a heat lamp unless it’s ready and waiting for your server to bring it to your table. And we don’t use any frozen meat.”

The couple plan to open a speakeasy in the basement for more grown-up fare, likely in the new year. But the main floor will remain a family friendly space with good food and good fun.

Seating includes the picnic tables inside and tables on an outdoor patio. Hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Parking is available on the street around Old Town Grille, at 312 N. Montgomery Avenue.

The restaurant also has online ordering available. Place your order and walk in and pick it up. If you’d rather stay in your car, call 256-320-5166 and someone will bring your order to you.
