‘Spooktacular’ family friendly events haunting rec centers across Huntsville

HUNTSVILLE — The Huntsville Parks and Recreation Department is inviting families to celebrate the Halloween season with some “spooktacular” event options at recreation centers across the city.

“There’s nothing scary about these events but, instead, plenty of family friendly fun,” said Parks & Recreation Director James Gossett. “We’ll have lots of candy for all the ghosts, monsters, and superheroes who visit our recreation centers.”

Costumes are encouraged at each free event and there will be free candy for the kids  There will be a variety of activities aimed at fostering community engagement.

Other scheduled events include:

  • Boo Bash: Oct. 24, 6-8 p.m., Brahan Spring Recreation Center
  • Monster Mash: Oct. 26, 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Mark Russell Recreation Center
  • Haunted Hallways & Fall Festival: Oct. 29, 5:30-8 p.m., Cavalry Hill Recreation Center
  • Adaptive Fall Fun Festival: Oct. 29, 5:30-7:30 p.m., Fern Bell Recreation Center
  • A Frightful Night of Fun & Games: Oct. 30, 5-8 p.m., Optimist Recreation Center
  • Hallowfest: Oct. 31, 6-9 p.m., Lakewood Recreation Center
  • Spooktacular Fall Festival: Oct. 31, 6-9 p.m., Showers Recreation Center

Parks & Recreation’s largest seasonal event – the Halloween Party & Haunted House – will be Oct. 27, from 4-9 p.m. at The Orion Amphitheater. Attended by thousands of Halloween revelers, the annual event is a collaboration with the Huntsville Police Department.
