North Alabama communities could see more than $5.5 million in federal funding for water infrastructure improvements under a spending bill advancing in Washington.
U.S. Rep. Dale Strong (R-Huntsville), a member of the House Appropriations Committee, announced that the committee has approved the Fiscal Year 2027 Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies appropriations bill, which includes funding for projects in Lawrence and Morgan counties.
The proposal includes a total of $5,542,200 for two projects aimed at improving water and wastewater systems in the region: $4,542,200 for the City of Moulton to make water treatment facility improvements and $1,000,000 for the Town of Eva to upgrade its wastewater treatment plant.
“This is an important first step toward delivering the resources our communities need to strengthen critical water infrastructure,” said Congressman Dale Strong. “North Alabama families deserve reliable, safe water systems, and I will keep working with my colleagues to push these projects across the finish line.”
The funding was approved during the committee’s markup of the annual appropriations bill on Wednesday. The legislation now moves to the full U.S. House of Representatives for consideration.
Strong said the funding reflects ongoing efforts to direct federal investment back into the region.
“I will never apologize for bringing your tax dollars back home to North Alabama. I am proud to fight for resources like this that allow our communities to make critical infrastructure improvements,” said Strong.
The broader appropriations measure totals $26.3 billion and supports programs related to agriculture, food safety, and rural development. It is one of 12 annual spending bills Congress must pass and is the fourth to advance out of committee this cycle.
