Strong named Commerce, Justice, Science vice chair among other key Appropriations subcommittees

WASHINGTON — Entering his second term in Congress, U.S. Rep. Dale Strong has landed seats on key subcommittees for North Alabama.

Strong (R-Monrovia) was named by the Appropriations Committee to serve on three key subcommittees, including vice chair of the Commerce, Justice, and Science subcommittee. He was also selected for the Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development; and Legislative Branch subcommittees.

“Being a member of the Appropriations Committee alone is a great honor — but being selected as the vice chair of CJS and having the opportunity to serve alongside Chairman Hal Rogers, the dean of the House, will not be taken lightly,” Strong said.

The Commerce, Justice, and Science Subcommittee oversees the Department of Commerce, Department of Justice, including the FBI; NASA; National Science Foundation, and related agencies.

“CJS is a critical assignment for North Alabama,” Strong said. “The subcommittee oversees funding for the Federal Bureau of Investigation and NASA, both of which have a large presence in North Alabama. Alabama is proud to host the largest concentration of FBI personnel outside the national capital region. And when it comes to space exploration, Huntsville has led the way for generations.

“On CJS, I will advocate for the critical work we do in North Alabama for NASA, commercial space exploration, and law enforcement across this country.”

The Subcommittee on Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development oversees the Department of Transportation, the Department of Housing and Urban Development, and the National Transportation Safety Board, among others. The subcommittee controls one of the largest annual allocations of discretionary funds, presenting a valuable opportunity to ensure that taxpayer dollars are spent responsibly.

“North Alabama is one of the fastest growing areas in the country,” Strong said. “This means we have significant infrastructure needs that affect all of us. I look forward to working on legislation that makes meaningful investments in our roads, bridges, airports, and waterways across Alabama, but particularly in our fast-growing region.”

The Legislative Branch Subcommittee oversees all entities within the legislative branch which includes the Congressional Budget Office, Government Accountability Office, Capitol Police, Architect of the Capitol, the House of Representatives, and the Library of Congress.

“This subcommittee funds congressional operations, promotes transparency, supports security, and ensures accountability,” Strong said. “I am looking forward to ensuring that Congress has the resources necessary to rapidly implement President Trump’s agenda.”
