MADISON — It’ll be virtual who’s who of Huntsville Stars history next month when the Rocket City Trash Pandas host “Stars Throwback Night.”
Through the efforts of former Stars player Jimmy Jones and Rick Davis, the Stars’ first radio broadcaster, some 30 former players will be on hand Sept. 8 to greet fans and sign memorabilia.
But, that’s not all. There is a luncheon in the SportsMed Stadium Club at Toyota Field – and the fans are invited.
“This started with an idea that maybe we could help the Trash Pandas with more former Stars coming in for ’Stars Throwback Night,'” Davis said. “Then it started to mushroom and we may have 12 or 13 of the original Stars team here, and more than 30 former Stars here.
“Some of these guys haven’t been back to Huntsville since that first season in 1985, so it should be a lot of fun.”
For those interested in either a table or a seat for the luncheon, tables are $250 and individual tickets are $25. Contact Davis at 256-800-3783; [email protected] or Jones at 256-617-2716; [email protected].
The Trash Pandas are also offering a special ticket offer for the game. Those who buy tickets can purchase a Huntsville Stars T-shirt for $20. Sizes are Large and X Large, while sizes last. The deadline is Friday. Click here to order.
In the game, the Trash Pandas will be wearing Stars replica jerseys. The autographed, game-worn jerseys will be auctioned online, with the proceeds being split between the Rocket City Trash Pandas Foundation and Friends of Rescue. Fans do not need to be present at Toyota Field in order to bid in the online jersey auction.
Former players committed to the game, as of Wednesday, are Greg Cadaret, Charlie O’Brien, Francisco Matos, Jose Tolentino, Chip Conklin, Steve Phoenix, Scott Whaley, Brian Criswell, Bob Hallas, Rick Stromer, Rob Nelson, Wayne Giddings, Russ Kibler, Michael “Benji” Grigsby, Joe Kramer, Roy Anderson, Brian Guinn, Doug Scherer, Wally Whitehurst, Damon Farmar, Stan Hilton, Darrin Duffy, Kevin MacLeod, Hunter Morris, Donovan Hand, John Marquardt, Brian Dorsett, Mark Bauer, Jimmy Jones and Rocky Coyle.
Former manager Brad Fischer and pitching coach Bert Bradley will also be there.
