The weekend begins today, at least in Downtown Huntsville

HUNTSVILLE — The calendar may say Thursday but the weekend starts today in the Rocket City.
Local non-profit organization Downtown Huntsville has announced that it will be presenting an exciting array of events to the public beginning today.
“These events embody the spirit of Downtown Huntsville by bringing together community members to celebrate art, local businesses, and the incredible achievements of our city,” said Rob Buddo, president & CEO of Downtown Huntsville, Inc. “By creating dynamic experiences like these, we’re not only fostering a vibrant downtown atmosphere but also reinforcing Huntsville’s status as a destination for everyone to enjoy.”
The events include live music, local art, food trucks, and, of course, a NASA celebration.
  • 805 After Five
This month’s installation of 805 After Five will take place today from 5-8 p.m. at Butler Green Park on Campus 805. Attendees can enjoy a free concert by the talented Aaron Lee Tasjan, with an opening act by local favorite, Camping in Alaska.  There will also be retail vendors, food trucks, yard games, and various activities and giveaways.
  • Art Walk
The celebration continues Friday at Courthouse Square, with the Downtown Art Walk from 5-8 p.m. Shoppers can explore over 50 local artisan vendors offering unique items such as handmade soaps, clothing, jewelry, and artwork. As visitors browse the goods, they can also enjoy free live music by Maclain Lawson and the DL3 trio.
  • Legacy of the Invisible
Also Friday, visitors can join NASA & Friends at the corner of Washington Street and Clinton Avenue at 6:30 p.m. for a special event celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Chandra X-ray Observatory and introducing Huntsville’s newest art installation, “No Straight Lines” by Float. Attendees can meet NASA space experts from the Marshall Space Flight Center and check out various space-themed exhibits.
  • Food Truck Rally
Rounding out Friday night, the Food Truck Rally, featuring more than a dozen food trucks, will take place from 5-9 p.m. at Big Spring Park.
Attendees will also be able to take part in Huntsville Parks and Recreation’s Light Up the Night event, featuring a live DJ, dancing, and an electrifying glow party.
